What is the Placer County Youth Commission Responsible for?

Advise the Placer County Board of Supervisors and other key decision makers about issues impacting local youth.

What are some of the youth Commission's accomplishments?

Successfully helped to pass a Social Host Ordinance for unincorporated Placer County in 201#.

Worked with multiple youth organizations to create an art piece that celebrates the diversity in our county.

Hosted 5 annual Free Your Mind, Free The Air Awareness 5K to encourage youth and others to join in reducing the impact of Big Tobacco on our community.

Worked with the Placer County Planning Department on increasing youth engagement with the 2050 General Plan.

Developed an alternative to suspension program for youth caught vaping in school and presented the program to school boards.

Hosted an art contest to bring awareness around mental health.
How long can I serve as a youth commissioner?
The Placer County Youth Commission consists of twenty-one members, each serving a one-year term (July 1-June 30). The maximum term of service is two terms.
When and where are youth commission meetings?
The Placer County Youth Commission meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month, August through June, at the Auburn Public Library (first Wednesday) & Rocklin Public Library (third Wednesday). The meetings take place from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Youth Commissioners also come together in July for an annual Summer Retreat.
What are the requirements to be a youth commissioner?

Applicants must be residents of Placer County

Between the ages 14 (or entering 9th grade) to 18 (or in 12th grade) years of age

Membership shall consist of at least two representatives from each of the five supervisory districts in Placer County

What is the application process?

Applications for the 2025-26 term will be available March 14, 2025.

Submit the completed online or paper application (click here) by the deadline.

Deadline to submit your application is April 30, 2025.

Due to the number of applicants received, it is potential that only a limited number of applicants will be chosen for an interview.

Applicants will be notified of their status approximately two weeks after the deadline date.

Selected applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview to be held in June 2025.

Interviews will be conducted via Zoom.
